Finding the Millionaire in You!

July 30th, 2009 No comments

Yesterday I wrote about the dirty little secrets about passion.  The passion that destroys and the passion that creates something of value.  Today, I would like to expand that thought.

Did you know that there are literally millions of ways to make millions of dollars.  You are probably thinking, “Yeah, right. Where’s my millions.”

Years ago, there used to be a sci-fi series on tv called “Sliders”.  Every episode, this team of people would slide through a worm hole into a parallel universe.  The objective of the slide was that they were trying to get home to their own universe.  But, of course, to keep the series alive, every week they would slide into another parallel universe.

Let’s say, that you could slide into another universe where you are making a million dollars a year.  What do you suppose you would discover about the rich you?  I think you would find the you that is passionately engaged in something that you are passionate about.

Have you ever stopped to think about what you are passionate about?  Our every day world is filled with the value that passionate people have created.  Let me give you a couple of examples.

A long time ago, people didn’t believe that humans could fly.  Many people scoffed at the idea of people flying through the air like birds.  Some people didn’t scoff and they became very passionate about the possibilities.  Two of those people were the Wright Brothers.  They had an idea fueled by their passion.  They set a date, told the press, hired a band and invited everyone to the “first flight”.  Guess what, they failed!!!  People laughed.  They were ridiculed.  The Wright Brothers did not give up.  They were filled with passion for something they believed could work.  As history goes, it took them a few times to reach success.  Their passion led to a complete change in human history; airliners, space travel, wonder drugs developed in space, the space station and the list goes on and on.  How many millionaires have come out of those industries? It is mind boggling.

Before 1954, people didn’t believe that a human being could run a mile in 4 minutes.  In 1954, an athlete by the name of Roger Bannister broke that 4 minute mile.  He was an exceptional athlete that had been told when he was a child that he would never even walk again after a fire burned off his toes.  He had to relearn to walk only having one toe on each foot.  After Roger broke the record he didn’t hold that record for long.  Once other athletes realized and believed it could be done they were able to break Roger’s record many times.  The entire track and field industry changed.  Tracks had to be developed that could give an athlete an extra edge.  A track today looks nothing like the tracks back in 1954. How many millionaires came out of that passion?

A small town football coach, by the name of Art williams, went to a family reunion and met his cousin who was a CPA.  His cousin explained to him how term insurance worked.  Art’s father had died too young and left his wife and Art’s younger brother with a very small whole life policy.  The family was devastated by the loss of income.  When Art heard that his father could have provided a bigger death benefit through the use of term insurance and replaced his income, Art became very passionate.  He developed a company in 1977 that changed the entire insurance industry and he became a billionaire in the process.  Millions of people’s lives were changed with the “buy term and invest the difference” philosophy.  His idea created hundreds of millionaires who shared this same passion with him.

Did any of these people believe that they could change the world with their passion?  Probably not.  Did they believe that each one of them would be responsible for creating millionaires in the process?  Probably not.  If you get in touch with your passion do you know where it could lead you.  Probably not.  Isn’t it time to find out?

The Dirty Little Secrets of Passion

July 29th, 2009 No comments

There seems to be a disease that has plagued our species since the beginning of time.  It has caused more death and destruction than any natural disasters known to man.  It continues to plague our planet, in spite of our scientific and spiritual discoveries.  What is this disastrous thing?

It is our passion to be “right”.  I am not talking about making a right turn or being on the political right.  I am writing about our need to have our opinion be the only correct one.  Many wars have been fought over who’s idea of God is correct.

Does it really matter who’s idea is correct?  If someone believes something that they hold dear to them, why do they need to make sure I believe the same way?  I am not saying that a healthy debate is not important.  In fact, if a debate is triggered over a belief it doesn’t have to escalate to destructive proportions. Most ideas that are important can be discussed without the need to be forceful.

Could it be that if we can’t convince someone that we are right and they are wrong that it takes away the power of our belief?  Or is it that if we can’t convince someone that we are right that it robs us of our self worth?

Maybe, when we feel so much emotion about something, it spills over and we want to tell everyone about it.  Our passion is so strong that we want everyone to believe the same as we do.

There is a lot to be said for passion.  When someone is emotionally connected to something they are willing to fight and die for that passion.  Passion is what moves our soul.  When we are using our passion in our career path we are unstoppable.  It guarantees the energy required to pursue our passion until the job is done.

Donald Trump says that  passion is the number one secret to success.  He should know.  He has had numerous failures and successes.  So, when does passion take that nasty turn and become the desire to prove, above all reason, that you are “right”?

I have known many passionate people that believed so strongly in their quest that they have built hugely successful businesses.  They act differently, walk differently and people react differently to them.  Their passion is their fire.  They show people their passion in everything they do.  That passion is healthy and vibrant.

Then there is the passion that is so dark and twisted that people are willing to fly airplanes into buildings.  They are willing to strap bombs to their chests and take large groups of people with them in their fiery deaths.

When does passion become wrong when we feel so strongly that it has to be right?  Could it be the focus of our passion?  Could it be, when we are focused on destruction  instead of creation?  Is it our desire to be “right” at all cost that leads to the darkness, especially when it costs others their lives or their self worth?

I believe that if you can focus your passion for the “betterment of all” you will direct it to something positive.  You will join the ranks of those passion focused people that believe so strongly that they won’t rest until they build something of worth.  Something that changes the world and makes it better for all who inhabit it.  As the quote in Star Wars, The Phantom Menace says, “always remember your focus determines your reality.”

Prosperity – Life’s Little Goodie Box

The buzz word in today’s world is prosperity.  Everyone is talking about it. There are many “gurus” that want to sell you “the secrets” to prosperity. What does “prosperity” mean to you?  Stop for a moment and think about it.  How will you know when you are prosperous?
It is a human condition to always want to be more and have more.  Some people believe that it is “wrong”.  They see the poor and underprivileged as the people who deserve to have more.  Their feelings of sympathy for the less fortunate is noble.  But, sometimes these feelings color their emotions and give them feelings of guilt for having more and being more.

If you are reading my blog you are a person that enjoys self improvement.  You have that desire for success  and to be more than who you are right now.  I also have that desire.  Have you wondered why you have that desire?  Could it be the pull from the Divine?

Let’s get back to prosperity.  Have you decided what it means to you?  Take a brief moment and write it down.  Look at it.  How would your life be different if you achieved what you have just written down?

I have a 3 X 5 card holder that a friend made me that looks like a butcher block table, complete with mini bowl and rolling pin.  It was designed to be used in my kitchen.  Any one that knows me will tell you that my kitchen isn’t my most favorite place to hang out, for cooking.  Instead, I have it sitting on my desk and every week I find a quote that rings true to me and it goes on that little holder to be pondered.  This week, I came across a quote that I don’t know who wrote it, but it says “The Secret to having it all, is believing that you do.”  Read that again.

Let’s apply it to what you have written down about your own personal prosperity.  If you already had your idea of prosperity, what would your life look like?  What would you be doing?  Would you act differently?  Close your eyes for a moment and picture in your mind what that would be like.

When you do that little exercise, if you feel a sense of peace and happiness you have stumbled on to something.  I am not going to tell you at this point that all you have to do all day to achieve this is to sit on your meditation cushion and think happy thoughts about this.  I am going to tell you to get an action plan on how to accomplish this.  All you can control in your life is your attitude and your activity.  But that is enough.

To continue on our journey of self improvement to enrich our lives, I have found and exceptional tool.  It is something you should check out.  Bob Proctor has a program that you can received a 6 minute message every day to help you stay focused.  The messages are educational and motivational.  Bob Proctor is a giant in the self help industry and he is willing to spend 6 minutes a day with you!  How cool is that?!  Check it out here!
